We wanted to give you an update on the planned Rootler event for August Bank Holiday this year, as we know there are many of you waiting for this. As you’re hopefully aware now, the company is undergoing a transition period and there has been a lot going on behind the scenes to action this. If you want more information, please read: White Star Running update 2023 – endings and beginnings – White Star Running. This has caused us to have to delay the opening of our summer races.
Across the country runners, understandably, are not entering races as much as they used to. Many of our colleagues in the running world are having races go ahead at 25% of their usual capacity. Some of our races are running well below capacity, making them financially unviable to put on. Our summers races are no different, with fewer runners signing up than we would have previously expected to see.
Due to this, and the fact that the races were due to take place in just a month’s time, we’re unfortunately not going ahead with the planned Rootler event. This is not something we do lightly, but putting on a race that will make a big loss is just not viable. We don’t have the time to build and market the event as we would want to in order to make it a success for everyone involved.
The team at Mapperton Estate have been very understanding and can’t wait to welcome us back in December for the Muddle, after a great inaugural event last year. They are also helping us explore the possibility of a spring addition to our race calendar at the same venue next year.
We’re really sorry that we’ve had to make this decision, but hopefully you are able to join us at Cranbourne for our final summer event (https://whitestarrunning.clubtrac.co.uk/e/cranborne-races-2023-7912), or have the Dark Races and Mapperton Muddle on your radar to round off the year in style. Entries for these will open in mid-August for Dark Valley, and early September for the Mapperton Muddle.
